SWF seeks… Community Choice.

Jessica’s post about sewing her own pants made me desperate to get my fingers working some fabric again. I wanted to challenge myself a bit more than I have in the past. That said, I kept the challenge in the Very Easy category of patterns. I’ve been sewing since I was a wee lass but never anything too complicated.

For this project I used Butterick pattern #5285 and this really great gold twill I found while poking around the Jo-Ann Fabric website. Jo-Ann’s fabric is usually a bit too… crafty for my taste. But every now and then there are some gems like this. As soon as I saw it I thought, “Anthropologie.”

This project entailed a lot of firsts for me - first pockets, first zipper, first waistband, first pleats, first SKIRT! I’ve always done simple dresses so this was a leap for me.

I was most worried about the zipper. But the pockets and the zipper went off without a hitch. It was the waistband that gave me trouble. Thank goodness for Mom. She’s got ridiculous sewing skills (the woman made her own wedding gown) and was easily able to walk me through my issue. (Where do I pin this thing?!)

I’m so proud of the end result. It’s exactly what I was hoping for. I wanted to show it off immediately. Which brings us to Community Choice… What should I wear to work on Tuesday?
