You’d think with the endless barrage of tiaras and Kardashians that young women only care about looking pretty and getting more things. Recently, I met Charlee, who is challenging that notion head on. At just 10 years old, Charlee has started a small charity called Rosie Hope, named after her dog. Through Rosie Hope, Charlee raises money to purchase Christmas gifts for needy children by selling jewelry and accessories and through donations.
Charlee is bright, articulate and genuinely kind. She is part of a new breed of young women who deserve to have their voices heard through a bull horn. Please take a moment to learn more about Charlee and Rosie Hope.
SWF: What is Rosie Hope and how did you come up with the concept?
Charlee: When I found out some facts about Santa and how my parents were responsible for the Christmas I experience, I thought about the kids whose parents could not afford to do what mine do. I wanted to help these kids have a great Christmas like I have.
This year we raised $740. We will be giving gifts to 3 kids and we hope to help more kids and families next year. If anyone knows of anyone who could be helped by Rosie Hope we are happy to take names for 2012.
SWF: How long have you been raising money through Rosie Hope?
Charlee: This is my first year. Last year we delivered gifts to 1 kid and this year I wanted to do it for more kids so I started Rosie Hope to raise money.
SWF: How can people reach you to make a purchase?
Charlee: I will be planning a few fundraisers for next year and I sell my jewelry and accessories at Velvet Salon and Boutique in Harmony, PA.
SWF: What do you hope will happen with Rosie Hope?
I hope next year we raise even more money and I have to get volunteers to help me deliver to all of the kids we give gifts to.
