Our move to Pittsburgh in 2007 (The Husband edit) 2006 happened in phases. It began with me moving down and living at CJ’s aunt’s house. (Thank you Kathy!) I was here, often alone, in a brand new city and working a brand new job. It was exciting, of course. But it was also stressful!
One of the first people I ever met in Pittsburgh was Jaime Carter. She was one of the kindest people I had ever met and I just knew we would always be friends. She’s been a pillar of support in my life since the day I met her. She was there when I became Mrs. McBride and I was there when she became Mrs. Dray. I am so proud to have Jaime as my next stylish Burgher. Definitely check out her blog, Weddobsessed. It is so perfectly Jaime.
Where do you live in Pittsburgh? If in the city, what neighborhood?
Steve and I are official ‘Burghers, residing in the quaint neighborhood of Crafton! We love this area—the homes are mostly historic and huge! The locale is ideal- about a 6 minute drive to downtown, close to the busway and 8 minutes to 79. :)
What is your favorite piece of clothing?
You mean besides my wedding dress? Kidding of course! This is a hard question. I try to invest in classic staples that will last forever—that being said, my favorite piece of clothing would have to be a pair of Seven Jeans I bought forever ago. They are a darker wash so I can wear them with heels, a dressy top and a cropped jacket and they look great! They also can be worn with flats and a tank and look great too. Versatility is KEY.
What store do you find yourself in most often?
TJ Maxx without a doubt. My mom raised me to be a bargain hunter above all else, and I love that you can find quality name-brand clothing at incredible prices at TJ Maxx. If I’m not shopping there and want some really great staples I love Ann Taylor Loft and White House Black Market (Have you seen their wedding line??? I die.)
What is in your bag?
Chapstick. Wallet. Planner. Nook. Cell. Nail file. Tide-to-go pen….a serious must in my life. :)
What is your favorite Pittsburgh spot?
Currently really loving discovering Crafton homes and restaurants, but we are also really big fans of Frick Park! We have the best times attending their First Friday concert series every summer!
Tell us all about your wedding.
My wedding was such an emotional day! It was truly overwhelming having everyone I loved in one room to celebrate our marriage. I really wanted Steve and my personalities to show through our choices—we chose live music over a DJ, and went vintage with our clothing selections. Once I picked my dress, the rest of the wedding decisions were a lot easier to make. I recommend having a ‘centerpiece’ to any event and let the theme flow from that!
What lessons have you learned in the short time you’ve been married?
I have learned that a marriage doesn’t just happen after the wedding. It has to be something you work on DAILY. And I’ve learned a healthy dose of consideration goes a LONG way when living with your spouse. It’s not just about ME, it’s about US.
What is your favorite part about being married?
My favorite thing about being married HAS to be the time I get to spend with Steve. There is no better comfort or feeling than knowing your best friend is there for you all the time. It’s so natural—how the world should be. :)
