SWF seeks... pretty tough.
This jacket is one of my favorite pieces. I feel like I can wear it with anything and it looks good. But I particularly enjoy putting it with skirts and dresses. It’s sort of like a nasty girl’s suit jacket.
It was quite cold today. Layering this under a nice long coat cuts the wind just perfectly. Add the scarf and I’m as cozy as can be. Except when there is no heat in my...

SWF seeks... Community Choice - Super Bowl...
It’s been a tremendous weekend chock full of relaxation. I finally unwrapped the piece Morgan sent to me for our mini swap. Look at how lovely the wrapping was. Can you blame me for not wanting to touch it? I need to get better at my packaging. The pieces I sent to Morgan were rolled up and shoved in the smallest box USPS would allow. It was sort of ugly.
The Husband and I also tried a...

SWF seeks... brain freeze.
My wardrobe seemed to have a total lock on it today. I couldn’t see anything to wear. Simple shift, colored belt, tights and pumps. There’s not much very exciting here but we all have those sorts of days me thinks.
We have a nice quiet weekend on the docket. We plan to take in The King’s Speech (Have you seen? Did you enjoy?) and a little dinner at Kaya (Visiting Pittsburgh?...

SWF seeks... dusty, gritty, truly.
Today’s ensemble isn’t a true imitation however for some reason, as I was braiding my hair and buttoning my shirt all the way up (something I really never do) I could not help my mind from wandering to Mattie Ross.

Have you seen True Grit? The Husband and I recently had occasion to watch the movie. We were both quite impressed. Disappointed it was so short and that you...

SWF's Favorite Things
Story of my life: It was ugly today. I didn’t get ensemble shots. WAHWAAAAHHHH. So I thought I would go Oprah on your ass and offer up a few of my latest favorites. No genre is safe. But I’ll probably touch on my favorites - music, food, pretty things.
Number 1: If you hang out with me on Facebook, you may have noticed I was a little blown away by the Spring 2011 Givenchy Couture...

SWF seeks... Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
It must be the bleak weather. If you cross my path while I’m walking down the street I probably look a little something like this. Pretty miserable. Although today was downright balmy with temperatures in the 30s.
Never fear. This is truly just a cocoon I wrap myself in to get me from one enclosure to another. I swear if you said hello to me my face would crack into a smile so bright...

Sick Days... no CC this week.
My apologies darlings. Yesterday I was working on a project, which I cannot wait to show you! But I was not feeling very well. So when I got home I crashed. And today I am home and attempting to get better. I promise SWF will return to normal very soon.
In the meantime, check out some of my favorite recent posts…

SWF seeks... pinups.
Pittsburgh Fashion Magazine randomly asked me to squeeze my body into a bathing suit and crawl all over a classic car. Since the suits were retro inspired pieces from ModCloth, I said okay. But only because there was a fair amount of fabric covering this pasty body.
Here’s a little sneak peek.
It was cold. And at any given moment there were a handful of guys hanging out and...

SWF seeks... that 70s ho.
Having a blog affords the creator many opportunities. One of my favorites is meeting new people. One of my readers e-troduced me to a budding Pittsburgh photographer named Tim Schreiber. Tim and I went to lunch and became instabuds.
We’ve been trying to get together for eons. Sunday, we finally made it happen. We were blessed with a gorgeous day but cursed with whipping winds and frigid...

SWF seeks... check, check and check.
Community Choice was a tie this week. My mom voted on Twitter really late last night but I didn’t get her vote until I got to work. Her vote would have tipped the scales. But in the end, I decided to give this little guy his time in the spotlight.
It just means Sunny Shot will have to be worn very soon.
Today was the sort of day when I had a lot to do. On days like these, I make a...

Blazer & pants: c/o Jupe Boutique, Blouse: Ann Taylor Thrifted, Boots: BCBG, Scarf: c/o Global Girl Gifts
My office was open today. It was the first day back to classes for most of our students as well. Believe me, I would have loved to have the day off. And I know the students wanted the day off as well. Most universities have Martin Luther King Day off.
When “everyone else”...

SWF seeks... Community Choice.
We had a great day yesterday in Pittsburgh. V! Now we’re anxiously watching the Jets/Pats game. I really would love to be watching the Golden Globes red carpet arrivals. But The Husband is extremely forgiving when it comes to my viewing selections. Also, seeing the dresses live doesn’t have quite the same urgency as watching an important football game live.
The Husband wins.

SWF seeks... a victory.
If you’re from Pittsburgh, you know what today is. If you’re not, I’m sorry.
Kidding! In just a few hours, the Pittsburgh Steelers will play their arch nemesis the Baltimore Ravens. There are much bigger football fans out there than me. I have no doubt about that. But I do watch every game. And I am proud of the fact that I was raised a Pittsburgh sports gal.
When it comes...

SWF seeks... depression. I miss France.
Oh hello. Guess who was too cold to adjust the settings on her camera? Let’s pretend I’m being all finger snaps and cigarettes and razz your berries artistic with the blowout on my skin. Mmmkay?
I miss France. How is that even possible?
Where’s my… pocket… dammit.

SWF seeks... sail away. Come and sail away with...
The weather was such poop today that I was afraid my camera would get ruined if I tried to take photos. So I captured today’s ensemble in my office.
But my office is even more depressing than the weather outside. So let’s go to France. Um… ignore the proportions. I’m actually a GIANT.
You have seen this skirt before. Hike it, belt it and now you have a dress....

Dueling Dames: Vixen in the Kitchen
Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? Jupe Boutique challenged Ashley and me to take the same piece and style it. A sort of style showdown, if you will.
We picked out this sheer embellished vest-tank combo on Saturday. I hadn’t showered (don’t judge) so I was wearing a little scarf turban. When I tried on the vest I thought, yeah. I look like a Bret Michaels-Steven...

SWF seeks... pattern & texture mixing for...
Mixing patterns and/or textures is one of my favorite ways to add a little punch to an ensemble. Have you ever wanted to mix things up but feel nervous that you’ll end up looking goofy? Never fear. It’s quite simple to ease into pattern/texture mixing.
My number one tip is to keep each piece tone-on-tone. This brocade skirt and these lace tights are essentially just a blue skirt...

SWF seeks... Community Choice.
Our first weekend off the grid went very well. It was quiet and we got a lot done. Saw True Grit, which was very good. However, and I don’t say this often, it could have been longer to allow for more character development. Josh Brolin was barely in the movie. Regardless, it was a good western and Jeff Bridges performs perfectly, per usual.
We said farewell to our Christmas tree. The...

SWF seeks... a very old pair of pants.
Today’s ensemble is not as bright as the others from this week. I feel a little bad given all of the positive feedback from everyone. Thank you by the way.
Just a few photos today. It was cold. I was hungry and on my way to pick up lunch. If I had been thinking clearly, I would have shown you the beautiful bright green knit scarf my parents-in-law gave me for Christmas. And then we would...

SWF seeks... total & complete saturation.
Nobody does bold, saturated colors all smooshed together like Kate Spade. God how I wish I could afford Kate Spade gear. My body would be screaming with color every single day.
I was lying in bed last night, fantasizing about the latest Kate Spade lookbook and wondering how brightly I could dress today. This green skirt is one of the brightest things I own. I want to pair it with orange tights,...

SWF seeks... her tongue. Where is that stupid cat?
There isn’t much to ponder today. It’s Tuesday. I have a bunch of things running through my mind but they aren’t very appropriate for this forum. Do you ever feel that way? Like the things you have been considering aren’t worth mentioning in conversation or, if you’re a blogger, in a post?
Sharing information on a hyper-consistent basis can start to make your...

SWF seeks... a pleasant distraction.
This must be the longest work day of the year, right? That’s certainly how it felt. What made it worse was that The Husband had the day off. Peeling myself out of bed was that much harder. It’s days like these when it’s most important to dress with a purpose.
Today’s goal: Be as bright and bubbly as humanly possible. Since it was cold and I couldn’t expose my super...

SWF seeks... Community Choice.
Vacation is over? Really? Listen, I am truly thankful to have a job. It would be a bold-faced lie if I said I was looking forward to going back to that wonderful gift of a job. It will, however, feel very good to get back into our routine. The Husband and I always go through a sort of detox in January. We go off the grid. Staying in on the weekends, stepping up our workouts again, eating very...

SWF seeks... a happy new year.
I trust you all were surrounded by the people you love to ring in the new year. The Husband and I were lucky enough to have some of our best friends with us. We had dinner at Caffe Davio, left about eight pounds heavier each, and then joined others to surprise another pal for his birthday. I feel very lucky to have spent time with everyone.
All in all it was a fairly low key celebration compared...
